Emielke’s Bio

Emielke is an independent freelance photographer, art director, graphic designer and stills producer who completed five years of tertiary education and since worked in the industry for 20 years.

She first studied a BA (Fine Arts) Information Design degree at the University of Pretoria. This four-year degree covered a wide variety of design and communication disciplines. Emielke went on to do an intensive one-year, full-time Diploma in professional photography at the National College of Photography in Pretoria. During this period, 2002, she also did an internship with The Pretoria News and had the opportunity of going out with journalists and shooting stories. She learned how to capture priceless moments while making herself invisible.

In June 2003, Emielke joined The Pixel Foundry as a digital photographic assistant, later becoming junior photographer. In April 2005 became a freelance photographer, running her own business and using The Pixel Foundry as her agent. In the same year, Emielke completed a magazine journalism course at City Varsity, followed 2 years later by a travel-writing course through SA Writer’s College. In 2008, she completed the Thetha-accredited tourist guide course offered by Livingston Tourism Academy.

Since August 2010, Emielke has successfully been representing herself as a freelance photographer, art director, graphic designer and stills producer. She is also happy to be 2nd shooter on the production of DSLR Videos. Her interests are vast and she has traveled extensively, although not enough! Emielke’s photographic portfolio ranges from fashion to documentary, including lifestyle, kids, beauty, décor, corporate, food and travel. She is also the Creative Director for D&P Cricket.
